"This is kind of the opening act for what happens in November in districts like this that are going to determine control of the House," Democratic strategist Alyssa Cass told Axios.

“Long Island is running hot, and when people run hot, they run Republican,” said Alyssa Cass, a Democratic strategist. “George Santos was not an accident. His election was the direct result of years and years of careful Republican recruitment, party building and outreach in Long Island.”

“Republican fumbling on the border gives Democrats a unique opportunity to seize the issue,” she said. “I think that if Democrats message aggressively and, sometimes, perhaps uncomfortably, they can really seize the advantage on this issue.”

The Pilip-Suozzi race is showing the contours of the broader campaign that will play out over the next nine months, according to Alyssa Cass, a Democratic strategist working to help flip the House.

“I think this is really smart politics from the governor,” Democratic consultant Alyssa Cass said. “It’s taking away a big talking point for Republicans. They talk about this retail stuff all the time.”

Evan Roth Smith, a partner at the Democratic consulting firm Slingshot Strategies, noted Biden’s working-class “Scranton Joe” persona, built over five decades in politics, has essentially disappeared.

“Voters do not have a clear throughline for what Biden’s trying to do on foreign policy,” pollster Evan Roth Smith told Semafor. “They don’t understand, or they don’t see any linkage, between the decisions made around Afghanistan and the decisions made around Ukraine and the decisions made around Israel.”
